Good evening, thank you for letting me speak tonight. I’m Tiffany Martin, parent of two children who attend DCSD schools. At the Town Hall meeting organized by parents earlier this month, I asked the following question of CFO Betz:
“Cherry Creek has $3,081,743 budgeted for HR while DCSD has $40,920,023 which is approximately greater to the tune of $37,838,280. Can you please explain the differences?”
CFO Betz looked puzzled by the $40 million figure as if she had never heard of a $40 million HR budget before. She proceeded to correct me by saying the district’s HR budget is only $4 million dollars. After I got home, I checked the budget book and realized that the HR budget WAS $40 million in the 2015/16 year and had only been reduced to $4 million for the 2016/17 year.
Why would CFO Betz imply that my figures were wildly inaccurate when just last year the HR budget was exactly as I had stated.
Ms. Betz, did you not realize that just last year your HR budget was $40 million? Or were you deflecting to avoid answering why DCSD had an HR budget of approximately 13 times that of Cherry Creek? We were told by Steve Cook at the town hall in closing remarks to ‘trust’ the district. I want to trust the district, but at every turn, you evade, deflect, and mislead our community. There will be no trust rebuilt until this pattern of behavior changes.
