In his letter to the editor, Douglas County School Board president John Carson claims our community objects to “pay-for-performance,” but the real issue is the poor implementation of a specific, flawed system, and the waste of taxpayer dollars for unheeded expert advice not to use it. He fails to acknowledge that his version of “choice” takes away the choice of a good, well-rounded neighborhood school. He uses the union to distract from the very real concerns of parents in the district.
He calls a 1 percent rise in ACT scores “significant” and claims TCAP scores are “well above” average, but doesn’t mention the gap has shrunk over the past four years. He doesn’t disclose that increased graduation rates might be related to lower credit requirements, reduced class time and more off periods.
Vote for Barbara Chase, Julie Keim, Bill Hodges and Ronda Scholting for DCSD School Board.
