Incumbent school board slate’s campaign donors are primarily from outside DougCo and much of the outside money remains a secret
The campaign reports for the committees involved in the school board race were filed on November 1, 2013, and the results demonstrate a continued trend to hide the money flowing into the Douglas County School Board races by outside organizations. TV commercials supporting the incumbent slate or smearing their opponents cannot be missed as they air during Broncos games and prime time slots on cable TV. However, the campaign reports do not reflect the hundreds of thousands of dollars flowing into DougCo. For example, Americans for Prosperity just confirmed it will invest more than $350,000 in this campaign. (read here). Other organizations, such as the Independence Institute, Douglas County Education Alliance, DougCo Champions for Kids, Frontier Liberty, Colorado Women’s Alliance, and the Bradley Foundation are spending undisclosed money trying to influence our local school board election.
A new outside donor has also entered the ring for direct campaign donations to the incumbent slate – Jeb Bush, Chairman of the Board for the Foundation for Excellence in Education, an organization currently under fire for lobbying efforts (read here).
According to the most recent campaign reports, Douglas County citizens have contributed less than 8% of funds raisedby the incumbent slate and 92% of all the money raised is from 5 people who live outside of Douglas County:
- Ralph Nagel
- Alex Cranberg
- Carrie Morgridge
- William Armstrong
- Jeb Bush
It is time to elect four candidates who will restore the focus on excellence and who have committed to acknowledge, value, and collaborate with ALL Douglas County citizens. Douglas County citizens overwhelming are supporting these candidates. Don’t let outside money buy this election!
