FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Today, Douglas County Parents (DCP) announced their endorsement for Anne-Marie Lemieux, David Ray and Wendy Vogel for the Douglas County School Board of Education.
“We are honored to announce our support for three experienced, honest and dedicated candidates for school board,” said Meg Masten, spokesperson for DCP. “Anne-Marie, David and Wendy are committed to supporting all kids – from charters to neighborhood schools to alternative learning opportunities. With so many great choices for parents here in DCSD, it’s important that teachers, parents and students across the district feel supported and heard by their elected school board members.”
Anne-Marie Lemieux, a former teacher and parent to one DCSD graduate and one current DCSD student, is committed to focusing on students’ educational needs, building employee and community trust and ensuring fiscal responsibility. She believes that surveying parents, administrators, teachers and community members (something that the current board has refused to do since 2012 despite repeated requests from parents and teachers) is critical to the future success of the district. She emphasizes the importance of using the majority of public tax dollars to directly benefit and positively impact student learning. For more information: annemarieforboe.com
David Ray served as an elementary principal in Douglas County for 23 years, opening three elementary schools and leading a fourth to becoming the first DCSD school to national recognition as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. David is a long-time supporter of charter schools and testified in support of the Charter School Act in 1993. As a school board member, David plans to focus on holding district leadership accountable for rebuilding a culture of trust, unity and one that focuses on what is best for all children. Wendy, a parent of two DCSD students and long-time volunteer in the schools and community, says that she has chosen to run for the school board because she is passionate about public education and the critical role it plays in our community. She wants to reform our school board into one that focuses on sound fiscal management, transparency, and cooperation. As a member of the Douglas County Long Range Planning Committee, Wendy was involved the process to identify over $250 million in capital needs, so she is well aware of the critical need for fiscal responsibility at the district level.
