Douglas County Parents helps to monitor the fiscal activity in DCSD and bring fiscal awareness to the community. Previous reform-minded administrators and board members mismanaged taxpayer dollars in numerous ways. For example, DCSD failed to inform the public of plans to spend $16 million on a new teacher evaluation system when the state provided a free system that is being utilized by most other school districts. Another example is the failure to plan for and meet the district’s capital needs, currently estimated to be $300M and growing by at least $25M per year.
As DCP became aware of the fiscal wrongdoing, we shared facts with the community and confronted those mismanaging our tax dollars. The new Board has worked with the community to secure additional funding through a bond and mill levy override and implement conservative budgeting practices that direct funding toward improving educational outcomes for our students.
