Directors Silverthorn and Reynolds,
I am speaking on behalf of Douglas County Parents. As concerned parents and taxpayers in DCSD, we are appalled that school board President Meghann Silverthorn and Vice President Judi Reynolds have not yet resigned. It has been three weeks since a trembling teenager stood before you asking for your resignations.
Most of us have heard the recording Ms. Davis provided of the closed door meeting between the three of you on March 4. We heard your protestations at the school board meeting on April 19. We find it disingenuous that you claim you were not prepared to speak to this issue at that board meeting. Every member of the BOE had ample opportunity to review the information from the Davis family. The fact that only some of you did is no one’s fault but your own.
Your actions on March 4 served to intimidate and scare a child, regardless of what you intended that day. You barraged a 15-year-old student with questions and threats, behind closed doors without the prior consent of the student’s parents or the opportunity for an adult to represent her interests. This is alarming behavior in any adult, most especially those elected to oversee the educational interests of thousands of children. It shows extremely poor judgment, tantamount to abuse of power by a person in a position of authority.
We are requesting both of you resign immediately. Your behavior towards Ms. Davis continues to be inexcusable.
