Good evening, everyone. Thank you for the opportunity to speak tonight.
I’m Stacey Chamaty from the community group Douglas County Parents. We want to comment tonight on how thankful we are that you as a board saw the need for a bond and mill levy override and a majority of our community agreed and voted yes on 5A and 5B. It shows the high level of trust people are willing to place in the district’s hands, and we are excited to see our district moving in a positive direction. Kids are being put first, and we thank the seven board directors for leading by example.
Seeing the sign highlighting the upcoming F pod addition of Castle View High School made it all real for us. As Director Ray says, “promises made, promises kept”. We are eager to see all the improvements that will impact students, teachers, and our buildings.
We would also like to give a warm welcome to Ms. Marlena Gross-Taylor, our new Chief Academic Officer. We have heard positive comments from various teachers and feel Ms. Gross-Taylor is going to be an asset to Dr. Tucker’s cabinet and our district. We would be the first group to protest unnecessary additions to upper administration, but Dr. Tucker’s cabinet was not complete upon his hiring and we feel the Chief Academic Officer position is essential to the success of our students and teachers. We are excited to see curriculum alignment between feeders and fresh eyes on our academic challenges in DCSD.
We know there is a lot to do and it’s easy to become impatient. Please know that we appreciate you volunteering your time to work so hard to make DCSD a better place to learn and work. The positive change that has happened has not gone unnoticed.
